2023 - BRAND IDENTITY, PUBLICATION, COMMUNICATION

SUPERVISED BY: MATT CURRY
My chosen topic was the cost-of-living crisis, that many Australians, including myself, are currently struggling with. I created a Design Research Kit designed to assess participants current financial wellbeing during this time. After dissecting the results of the DRK, I discovered that when participants were asked to think of the first thing they would purchase with different monetary values, 100% opted for food. Another staggering result found was that 87.5% of participants mental health had been negatively affected by this issue. I sought to design a campaign with both these findings in mind, with a focus on taking back control of individual food consumption in an easily accessible way.

PATCH at its core is a community garden where individuals can come together and grow their own fruit and vegetables. Once you’ve joined you will receive a personal welcome kit with a reusable wooden crate, PATCH vegetable seeds, and a trowel with your plot number on it that acts as a ‘key’. I wanted to make PATCH accessible for everyone, so my second outcome was a “grow guide” that can be used either in your plot or at home. This sense of community, control and gardening as an activity will positively impact individuals mental health, purpose and of course take the stress out of purchasing fruits and vegetables that you can grow at home. The poster series is not only used for advertising PATCH, but to inspire others in a new way of thinking about what and how we consume.
