2024 - PACKAGING DESIGN
SUPERVISED BY: MEL COOMBES My precious packaging concept is a physical representation of a dolls house for my worry dolls to unwind and rest. Each doll has their own unique room dedicated to my four years spent in boarding school, a time these dolls were often used.
The designs exterior imitates the structure of the Mayan temple that the dolls originate from. I chose to hand-paint this structure in the same way their original box was crafted, keeping the exterior of my precious packaging tied to my objects origin and the interior representing their relationship to me. A somewhat metaphor for the emotions I feel ‘under the surface’ that my four worry dolls help me with.
Due to the materials used, my packaging is environmentally efficient and lightweight. The design has a long-life cycle as the packaging itself is used to “play” with or “display” the contents. The structure and compactness allow for the packaging to be easily transported, whilst keeping the contents safe inside.

THE WORRY DOLLS
Worry dolls have traditionally been cherished for their ability to ease the burden of stress and anxiety, particularly during childhood. Before bed you can confide in them about what is causing your worries before tucking them under your pillow. Throughout the night they will look for ways to solve these problems, sorrows, or anxieties, allowing you to start your day with a sense of ease. These dolls are used alternately through the week to ensure one does not get overloaded and can rest.
