2023 - EVENT IDENTITY, WAYFINDING, VDEO
SUPERVISED BY: SELENA REPANIS documenter, who’s photographs frequently raised more questions than they answered. The aim of this exhibition is to celebrate the not-so-often spoken about work of Rennie Ellis and uncovering the rich sense of preservation he found in photographing the taboo and recording the idiosyncrasies of human behavior. I communicated the feeling of capturing a personal, unique experience, through movement and blur, identified in the exhibition logo. This also adds grunginess to the design which mimics the work I am attempting to highlight.
The inverted coloured photographs help invite the viewer into Rennie Ellis’ world, and the intricacies behind photography as an art form. It also highlights the hidden, unknown, and secret nature of his work. I chose to use the four CMYK colours to enhance the identity of my exhibition. As the photographs will be printed using these colours to be presented in State Library Victoria. The vibrancy of this palette compliments the energetic photographs Ellis produces.

INVITATION
The exhibition invitation arrives flat and can be popped into a box like form and held as a camera. When the user looks through the cut-out, information for the exhibition reveals itself. The invitation can change shape to allow all information to be seen.
TEASER FILM
MERCHANDISE
Each matchbox contains 5 miniature postcards that can be torn off, their size is a reflection of the 35mm film slides Rennie Ellis used in his work. The matchbox itself acts as a metaphor for the controversy sparked by Ellis’ work and the striking of a match symbolises a camera flash.
WAY FINDING SYSTEM
The wayfinding system is a continuation of ode to photography theme. The lightboxes not only represent shining a light on Rennie Ellis’ not-so-often spoken about work but are a symbol of the flash of a camera, dark rooms and sparking controversy. The hanging wayfinding posters share similarities with how photographs are hung in a darkroom.
